Planning Fees are charged by the Planning Service when an application is lodged. They can be more than you pay your Architect! These charges are meant to be the fees necessary to process an application. We are told they are not tax, but how can it cost £262,395 to process any application?

You have some limited rights to develop without Planning Permission. If in doubt check with the Planning Service. You may not need Planning Approval. It is the opinion of this Practice the range of permitted developments in domestic, and commercial properties needs to be extended and the fees (tax) charged for Planning Applications need to be reduced and the system speeded up.

The planning process is a significant cost on most developments. It can also causes delays to developments, and to employment. Can the Northern Ireland economy afford the Planning Service in its present form?
